Thinking Ahead: Transitional Kindergarten

As we move towards Spring, it is time to think about plans for next year's school year.  Kindergarten is an especially big transition.  In California, we have the addition of Transitional Kindergarten and this program offers young 5 year old children a two-year kindergarten program.  TK was developed for children who's birthdays fall between September 2nd and December 2nd.  They miss the September 1st cutoff date for regular kindergarten enrollment, but now, with the addition of TK, these children can benefit from a transitional year to develop the skills needed to succeed in school.  For more information, take a look at this site:  http://www.tkcalifornia.org/about-tk/about-tk.html.   All California public elementary schools now offer Transitional Kindergarten.  Check with your local school to learn more about their program.
