About Me
My name is Amy Weisberg. I have been teaching for 41 years in the Los Angeles Unified School District, the past 26 years at Topanga Elementary Charter School. For the past 15 years I have taught the Developmental Kindergarten Program, now officially part of the LAUSD Transitional Kindergarten Program, and served as a consultant during the formation of the new TK program in LAUSD. I have taught Pre-K, Kindergarten, 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th, and 6th grades and specialize in Early Childhood Education.
In 2019 I was honored to be selected as a Los Angeles Unified School District Teacher of the Year and a Los Angeles County Office of Education Teacher of the Year for 2019-2020. In 2007 I was awarded the Lori Petrick Excellence in Education award.
I have a B.A. degree in Sociology from UCSB, a Multiple Subjects teaching credential from CSUN, a Language Development Specialist credential and Master’s Degree in Education Administration with an Emphasis on Organizational Leadership.
I have had the opportunity of being part of the California Reading and Literature Project Invitational Leadership at UCLA, Center X and am now a Teacher Leader with the Project. Additionally in 2012, I co-presented a workshop entitled: “Practical Strategies for Implementing a Transitional Kindergarten Program” at the California Kindergarten Conference in Santa Clara, the Southern California Kindergarten Conference in Pasadena, the Southern California Association of Educators of Young Children Conference in San Diego, and the California Teacher’s Association Early Childhood Caucus in Los Angeles. In 2014 I co-presented a workshop at the Southern California Kindergarten Conference entitled: “Collaboration Fun: Listen, Speak, Create and Eat!” addressing the need to collaborate with school speech pathologists as an early intervention strategy. Recently I was interviewed on the Right Road! Radio Show with Paula Phillips discussing ways to inspire and motivate young readers.
